Create a Professional Sleek Header in Adobe Photoshop

Step one:

Start with a large black canvas, in your layers window make a new layer set. Name it Sleek Header Design.

Choose your rounded rectangle tool and set the radius to 80 pixels. Create a new layer then draw a 817 x 78 pixels, white rounded rectangle. Use the fixed size setting under rounded rectangle options to make the exact rounded rectangle.


Step two:

With your step one layer, set the blending mode to Darken and add the following layer styles:



Step three:

Again choose your rounded rectangle tool with a radius of 80 pixels. Create a new layer then draw a 807 x 38 pixels, white rounded rectangle. Use the fixed size setting under rounded rectangle options to make the exact rounded rectangle.
Set the layers blending mode to Darken and add the following layer styles:



Step four:

Create a new layer. As shown on the picture below, draw a 52 x 10 pixels, black rectangle.
Add the following layer styles:



Step five:

Duplicate the black rectangle.

Step six:

Again make two copies of the black rectangle from step four. Position this copies on the opposite end of your header.

Step seven:

Choose your rounded rectangle tool and set the radius to 8 pixels. Create a new layer then draw a 793 x 21 pixels, white rounded rectangle. Use the fixed size setting under rounded rectangle options to make the exact shape.



Step eight:

With your step seven layer add the following layer styles:



Step nine:

Now create a new layer then draw a 793 x 21 pixels, black rounded rectangle.

Cut half of your rounded rectangle and add the following layer styles:



Step ten:

Choose your text tool and set the font to Copperplate Gothic Bold, 15 pt, crisp and white for color. In a new text layer type in your name.
Now set the font to Verdana, bold 9 pt, crisp and #319A03 for color.

Step eleven:

Add your official mascot or a custom logo next to your name and slogan. In this tutorial we added an alien mascot, save the file below and insert into your canvas.


Step twelve:

Add your navigation links with white “|” as spaces using font Verdana, bold, 10 pt, none and #00C0F0 for color.

Step thirteen:

Above each of your navigation link add number details. Use font arial, bold, 10 pt, crisp and white for color.

Final Image:

    OMG, that looks awesome! but one question, that alien guy in the header, did you make him also in Photoshop? or did you use a 3D package like Maya or 3D’s Max to make that?

    Thanks Travis, The alien mascot was also made in Photoshop. Theres a tutorial for it in this site, you can view the tutorial under “Drawings” Category on the right sidebar.
